This weekend Spadge & I headed over to Kenwick woods for a weekend in a log cabin set in a 320 acre estate in the Lincolnshire Wolds. It was so good. Perfect weather, amazing food & amazing company. We did a few walks & a lot of relaxing. On Saturday night the snow started coming down, by the morning the woods felt more like the Scandinavian country side than the east cost of England. I took so many photos it was hard to decide which to upload, so you’ve got a boat load. If you manage to get all the way to the bottom of the post you’ve done well, but it should be worth it.
I also shot three rolls of medium format through my Pentacon Six but haven’t had the chance to sort though them yet, get off my back about it! I’ll upload them when I’m good & ready!

This is my dream, to spend a snowy weekend in a cabin with my camera (and being with a beautiful woman certainly helps… hiya Spadge). But I think my favourite photo has to be Rick looking like a monkey in the tree.

Sagun No. Just no. I get asked this 500 times a week. Go learn how to use Photoshop, or Aperture, or whatever you want to use to edit. What I do isn’t complicated, if you know your software you’d easily be able to produce something similar. And if you actually learn it yourself rather than being shown you’ll get a lot more out of it.

Photographer firstly posting anonymously is stupid, I don’t really understand why you are hiding but that’s you’re prerogative I guess. Not really sure how telling someone to go & learn software because they’ll get more out of it makes me sound like a douchebag. I’d say that it’s more douchebagy to expect me to just tell them how to do something. A person will get more out of software if they learn how to use it properly. Take a image you like and try and emulate the feel, does it have more or less contrast, is there a blue hue, what do blend modes do… etc…
And how can you say that it’s an exclusive club for me? I share a fuck load with the photography community: how I shoot a low key portrait, how I shoot a daylight strobist portrait, hell there are FIFTY photos here that I produced in 50 days and every single one of them has a lighting diagram & video explaining the process. Am I not sharing enough?

I was more referring to your complaint about getting asked “500 times a week” about your process – which further solidify’s why you WON’T share your process with another interested photographer. Getting asked 500 times a week about your photographs?! Shucks, what a terrible problem to have. Maybe we could start a petition to get people to stop bugging you about your process!!!
I found this site because your photographs looks absolutely awesome – but you seem to have a bit of an attitude about them with REFUSING to share any of your process in this post and all but scolding an interested follower who asks…

@Photographer – what’s the point in Rick sharing the process he used? The point of photography is to make it your own, not produce copies of other peoples work.

Photographer I can’t understand someone not just going and learning it them self. You will not pick it up if you just get told how to do something, you should find your own method/style and you’ll only do that by sitting in front of photoshop and learning it. People are forever wanting the easy way out. And yeah, being asked something that you feel like this about is frustrating, if I had the time I’d put together a blog post about the merits of learning how to edit a photograph in your own way. I resent someone just asking/expecting me to give them this information in this way. What I would respond to, and have in the past, is someone entering into some dialoge with me about processing — showing me how they edit now or asking a specific, well thought out, question.

Where would people get by Rick explaining the process he used on these photos
Each set of photos needs a different process applying. What has worked for these shots would ruin a different type of shoot.
Going away and learning the software, learning to tweak the curves and apply filters yourself will give you the flexibility required to make any shot look good. Whereas if Rick explained exactly what he did here you’d only ever be able to shoot high key shots in the snow LOL

For everyone out there asking Rick about his processing, he has the most valid point. You learn by doing. If you are just given everything, you never learn how any of the processing techniques work. Take time to learn yourself, you won’t regret it.
